Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by one of my favourite blogs- Broke and Bookish.

This week the theme was “Ten Books I Enjoyed Recently (last yearish) That Weren’t My Typical Genre/Type of Book (or that was out of your comfort zone)”. Since starting this blog i have read so many more books, and plan to read so many more books, most of which are not my usual genre or ‘cup of tea’.

This list is both books i have read or are about to start reading very soon.

Books I have read

1 Fangirl

I had heard so much good about this book but i must admit it is not my typical type of genre. I do love a good YA book, but my first impression of Fangirl was a bit more of a romance/normal world story- not the usual YA dystopian sci-fi/fantasy series i pick up regularly. I really loved Fangirl and it really resonated with me- i relate so much to the main character and her life and i did get emotional at one point in the book.

2. The Selection

While i do love me some ‘Bachelor AU’ in the fan fics i read i never really read romance books. The Selection was something new to me and i loved every second of not only the first book in the series, but all the other books too. When romance is written well, i must admit i don’t mind it too much.

3. The Immortal Rules

Vampires. i think everyone is a little skeptical of vampires and vampire YA series after The Twilight Saga (pun intended). What i really enjoyed in The Blood Of Eden series was the new concept of vampires that was introduced- the dynamics with humans, their need to feed and the vampire politics.

4. Forbidden

This book was really something else- a little confronting i must admit. I did not end up writing a review on it, but it was very different to what i normally read. To put it bluntly it deals with child abuse and sibling relationships. It is well written and very thought provoking and it was a good experience to read something so far from my normal reads.

5. Dumplin’

Another book with more of the romance/real life story and characters then my usual reads. This book was a great read and touched on important issues regarding body image.

Books I Will Read

6.  American Housewife Stories

The last time i have read any short stories would have been in year 12 english literature- and i have been out of high school for 4 years now. I also don’t read many books that are light hearted and funny, so i am excited to pick this book up in the coming weeks.

7. In the Unlikely Event

I am a fan of Judy Blume but have not read anything recent written by her. I am reading this book as part of my 2016 Goodreads Awards Challenge and i never really delve into the Historical Fiction genre so this will be a new and exciting experience for me.

8. Modern Romance

I love Aziz Ansari and have heard great things about Modern Romance. Something a bit more romantic and even to an extent an exploration of modern society, especially modern relationships is a new world for me. Written by one of my favourite comedians this should be  a treat.

9. Luckiest Girl Alive

Again more romance and a ‘chick-lit book’. This book seems to have a more darker tone to it, a Gone Girl vibe almost in that it is romance but not really. I have it waiting on my iPad for me to finish the book i am currently reading so i can dive right in.

10. Future Crimes

A science book- but a proper non-fiction science book not a fiction medical thriller that you have heard me rave on about for the last month. I love fiction in which society has crumbled due to technology and war, and this is becoming a possible reality. This is explored in this book and the crimes involving new technologies and science-right up my alley and i never ever read non-fiction books (apart from university text books)

There is my TTT for this week- share with me your lists and i’ll hopefully find some more books that are way out of my comfort zone to read!

  1. Modern Romance is definitely one that I loved more as an audiobook. He would list research and studies and things then give anecdotes from his own life and I think the anecdotes were so much more fun in his voice.

  2. I know a lot of people that really loved Forbidden, but I just can’t make myself even buy it! I know it’s supposed to challenge you, but maybe I like not being challenged that way :p But I can totally see how it would make this list!

    My TTT.

Also, feel free to check out the last week of our giveaway!
